Re: Man Chain

Skip,

Those are some great tips for finding reefs. They make sense. We did quite well one day on some reefs we projected off some points on the island at the entrance to McVicar Bay in Kawnipi. We used a lure whose name I've forgotten, but it was basically a jig encased in soft plastic to make it look like a minnow. It caught everything.

I haven't used salted plastics but will the next time. I've had pretty good luck with Berkeley's "Power Baits" elsewhere, but haven't tried them much up there.

You make some good points about using lizards. The 'wear factor' is a definite consideration, but it never occurred to me that a plastic lizard might look like a school of minnows to a bass. You might have a point there.

Unfortunately we won't get to see that lake up from Fran you mentioned. I am planning to start at the Prairie Portage entry and enter the Man Chain from the SW end. I don't think I will have enough time to do the whole loop out through Cache and back down Knife, so I am confined to going out the same way I came in or finding a shorter loop.

I recently discovered that I have the topos for the area and have been studying them in detail. Barring windfalls and other obstacles, I think it may be possible to drop into Emerald from the Man Chain. That would be perfect.
