I know you don't mean it personally, but as a webmaster this forum does, at times, make me feel a bit derelict in my duties. There are two ways to handle small market boards like this, allowing them to exist naturally or seeding them. Don't let the .com fool you. If this were a normal commercial site, you could bet your canoe there would be a couple of seed posts every day. That's not the case with QuietJourney. We really, really want QuietJourney to be a reflection of it's visitors wherever possible. As a fellow paddler, I can recall one of my early trips to Quetico. GoreTex was just invented, and way out of my price range. It was the second or third day of solid rain. We were in the tent. No fun. Nothing to do. Then it finally dawned on me, since I was already cold and wet, I had nothing to loose by getting out and going fishing. I caught two really nice Lakers that day. I've looked at things a little differently ever since. What I'm getting at is, instead of lamenting - post something interesting. They're out there. The board has had 196 unique visitors (lurkers) in the last 7 days. That means you have 196 people who know it all just a few keystrokes and two clicks away. Get out of the tent and see if they'll bite! Posted by David Bintzler on October 18, 1999 at 02:03 |
