Re: Your biggest back-country blunder...?

One of my biggest blunders (lessons) came just after a very long portage. I was solo so it was a three tripper. I remember being glad that it was Spring and the air was cool with an intermittent breeze. Mid way into loading the canoe I was struck by the irresistible urge to have a Snickers. I had eaten the last one from the day food pack the day before so I pulled the main food pack back out of the canoe, found a good flat place to set it down, found the Snickers zip-loc, unwrapped one, put the wrapper back, closed the pack, and sat down to enjoy... all as my canoe was slowly drifting away. All I could do was walk right in after it. I'm just glad the water was only waist deep. Live and learn.
