That was very informative and it made a lot of sense. I hadn't really thought about it, but if you are going to heat the water anyway, there's no need to otherwise treat it. It's helpful to know that the cyst is heavier than water. Since I have typically collected drinking water well away from shore in the past, that may explain why I have never had any problems on previous trips.
