I wear Schnee pack boots (14'' tops) with leather uppers and rubber sole which are very similar to the LLBean boots. The Schnees have an "air bob" sole instead of the tire tread like the bean boots. Traction is excellent.

Thompson Water Seal, applied with a foam brush on the seams, and SnoSeal melted into the uppers, makes them virtually waterproof.
