Had a guy go up to Sawbill Lake & Ada Lake north of Tofte to check ice conditions for running sled dogs later on. He said that slush was minimal with many bare icey spots on lakes. You would think that you could move faster with minimal snow, but bare ice gives you no traction. Slush was minimal. The swamps are still freezing. You have to be careful around them, narrows, and streams or you'll be up to your arm pits in what is locally known as loon sh__. Right now the weather is mild (hanging around a little less than freezing) and is great for daytime activities. Snow depth is somewhere around a foot. Trout season inside the B-dub started today. I'm waiting until next weekend. Then I just follow the broken trails and reopen the ice holes that have blood near them.
