I concur with Ed's comments. Be aware that there is a lottery for permits that happens on January 15th. Permits will still be available after that but if you are looking at a popular entry point or entry date, it is advisable to enter the lottery. Go to the website Ed indicated. You'll need to know your preferred entry date and an alternative; and a perferred entry point and alternative; and where you will pick up the permit. You'll have to make a guess on group size and exit date though these are not binding (ie can be changed). It is also recommended that you designate two other alternate leaders (other group members)in case you can't make it. It will also cost you $32 (credit card) - $12 for reservation fee and $20 deposit. When you pick up your permit the rest of the fees are payable.

When you say "plan" what do you mean? Are you using an outfitter for full or partial outfitting? Are you outfitting it yourself? If using an outfitter, he can take care of the above for you. Where are you staying the night before? If you stay at an outfitter's bunkhouse or have breakfast there, it's nice to pick up your permit there as well.
