Re: Route ideas

I have been on this route about 5-6 times. You will begin with a 1/2 mile portage to the river. The portage is downhill although not too steep. You will be going in with the current. The river winds back and forth quite a bit. If the water is low, you may have to get out and pull the canoe. Otherwise there are a few beaver dams to pull over. On our last trip through about two years ago we saw moose twice on the river. Agnes is a nice lake with walleye and bass fishing. It will take between 4 and 5 hours to get there. You will probably encounter a number of people up through the portages and to Agnes. Once you get to Lac La Croix it will thin out a bit. You can make Lac La Croix on the first day in about 6-7 hours if you want to.
I've only stayed at one campsite on Agnes on the East side and never really checked out the rest. Lac La Croix has lots of campsites. There is one west of Warrior Hill that is on an Island. It is a large campsite with a sandy pull up area. All of these lakes have good fishing. It is worth the side trip to visit the falls also or even camp on Iron lake. One tip I can offer is don't plan on staying in Nina Moose on your last night to make a short last day. We tried that and all campsites were taken so we came out a day early.
