By the way. The map I used to reconstruct the trip is a Fisher map, labeled E-15. It shows the entire BWCA and Quetico. Too small for navigation purposes, but adequate for general planning. I bought one before leaving Ely last year for $5 or $6. Shortly after that, I went to the Ely Chamber of Commerce website (don't recall the URL, but pretty easy to find), and clicked on "send me info". I began receiving all kinds of great information from various outfitters, including another Fisher E-15, free of charge! One more side note on our trip last year. One of our traveling companions put his water bottle (filled with koolaid) into one of the gear bags to make a portage about half way through our trip. You can probably guess the rest. It spilled in the pack and soaked one of the tents, making it bear bait. We had to hang it with the food for the rest of the trip, forcing me and two others (one of them being the one who did it) to sleep under the tarp with our headnets on. Something we can laugh about now, but not too cool at the time. Yes...it DID rain.
