For the past three years I have used a Garmin GPS II+ with Canadian Topo maps and have had only minor problems. The first few trips I made I put in waypoints about every half mile at obvious landmarks such as long points or islands and the GPS took me to each spot. On my most recent trips I just used my GPS if I was unsure where I was. During a trip in Aug of 99 it rained everday of my trip and water leaked into the battery compartment so if the GPS was bumped it would turn itself off, but this has been my only problem so far. Overall I enjoy using my GPS during my canoe trips and like the ability to save those special spots I find along the way.
