I have a Hummingbird portable that I've taken on a few trips. One thing that I would highly recommend is turning the batteries around or taking them out until you get there. I was all set to go fishing the first night and took out the depth finder only to find out it had gotten turned on somehow and my new batteries were dead. I would say depending on how much you use it, the batteries would last all week. I personaly don't take mine with anymore. I seem to have enough success without it.
