If the 10-year old is going to be the "duffer", make sure she has something to do in the canoe. Give her a fishing rod and let her troll a lure, give her a map and compass and let her navigate (though you'd likely want to double-check her course), give her binoculars so she can watch for wildlife, bring some books, maybe some extra snacks to keep her happy.
