The Falls chain showed fire damage along the north shore evenlast year (the fire was 3 years ago). Portages on this chain are relatively easy. It's no fun if you stick to the ancient portages - go exploring!! But, leave only footprints. Don't trust Fisher maps - they're only a general guide. But, it's no fun if it's easy. If you want easy, stay in the Boundary Waters.
