Yes. We went that way many years ago, and paddled up the "river" rather than go to Agnes.
There wasn't any problem with shallow water, (but this year may be different), but it was challanging to find our way. There was little current and it was like paddling through a field of tall grass.

Last year we spent several nights on the site SW across from Warrior Hill, very nice, there were plenty of tow boats though. You might want to pick a site in the area south of Coleman Island. (I have heard reports of bears there though.)

BTW, all of the portages from Moose River to Lac La Criox are easy.
