Skinny:
I'm partial to late summer and early fall (late Aug - early Sept).
The colors seem to be more brilliant, even if the aspen and maple haven't yet started to turn. The sunlight is more "intense", less humidity I guess, and seems to hilite the various shades of greens for each tree variety.
