If you would like to avoid crowds, a general observation is that many people pass through Maria/Jesse. Both lakes have a lot of campsites and they all get used, especially around weekends.
With 2 weeks and a group of that size your options are pretty wide. I'd suggest wandering to the west through Mc Alpine for starters and let the wind and group dynamics be your guide. Take along Robert Beymer's paddler's guide to be sure you don't miss the usual "attractions" when you end up somewhere you didn't expect at the start.
