Ken, be sure your pup has ALL it's shots. It can't enter Canada without certain immunizations (I don't know all requirements, but it's international travel). Be especially aware of all the insect-borne (i.e. Lyme, heartworm, etc) and water-borne (giardiasis)diseases. The bugs are the worst I've seen in several years (left Quetico last Friday), although not as bad as 1994. Might also be sure the pup can tolerate DEET or other bug sprays. These bugs feed on moose and bears when they can't get humans.
If pup doesn't come immediately on command, or won't "stay" on command, I'd be leery of traveling with him/her - on the trail or in the boat.
