I took this route in August of 1998 and am going on the same route this coming August. In 1998 we had good fishing along the entire route. I caught a 29" walleye, numerous 18-19" bass and lots of nice sized pike. We caught most of the bass and pike at the base of the numerous waterfalls throughout the Maligne River. As far as campsites AVOID the site at May Island on Tanner Lake and the two small island sites in South-western Sturgeon Lake. The above mentioned sites were heavily used with open pits of human waste with TP strewn about; the sites also had lots of food scattered about. We found a nice campsite on the left bank of the Maligne River about a mile below the Maligne Portages. The only downside to this site was it is located next to a portage but we saw no one while we were camped there. There is also a nice campsite with a sand beach on Sturgeon Lake on the way to the Bentpine Creek area. If you would like any clarification on fishing spots or campsites just give me an e-mail. I would like to hear how your trip goes when you get back so I can know what to expect for my trip this fall.
