I agree with Rookie, I thought the same thing at the time, but when you see something like that it's like "I can deal with that, it's small", etc. I do belive that we are supposed to leave the fires alone... Do as I say, not as I do! I think it was a lightning strike, as the first night we slept in the back of the van at the parking lot (oops, more incriminating news - camping is not allowed at the entry point) and it started raining and thundering about 1A. We came off the Nina Moose River into Agnes, rounded the first point on the North shore and saw a wisp of smoke. If you look at the map, it looks like a campsite close by, so we thought it was some lazy bones, and kept going to our portage. If we would've been heading for LaCroix we would have seen the fire when it was small and probably would have saved the Forest Service ( sponsored by our user fees and taxes) thousands of $$. It was not to be... I'm glad someone appreciated my words, as I hoped that I gave an accurate description of what to expect. Half the problem is just not knowing what to deal with. So we're tenderfeet, don't look down on us. Everybody has to start sometime! If anyone has any questions I can answer, let me know by responding.
