THANKS JPW!!!!!, That's a very helpful description!!
I may not get another before I leave on Sept. 10, so Thanks again, Very Much!!
Last Oct. I paddled in from the Echo Trail, up the Little Indian Sioux River, and only got as far as the stretch of rapids just north of Chad lake,( S.E. of the portage to/from Little Trout lake), and that is where I saw the only evidence of the "Perfect Storm"! Yikes I'd hate to be out in that kind of EXTREME danger!! The power of nature is to be feared and respected, no doubt!! I can't imagine how bad it must be to try to portage some of the more remote (less traveled) routes! I did see signs that clearing crews had been there though, so hopefully everybody's making it through OK., everywhere.
I'll be traveling solo though, so my portages will be quite slow and punishing. I feel like this section of the BWCA is special to me because since I was a kid I've looked at the maps of the area and longed to go!!( My Grandpa lived in Soudan!) Now I can, so here I go!!
Thanks again--& Write more if you like!! I'm sure others can relate to your comments and observations too!!!
