It wasn't to close - we were careful since it was the early rut.

We were camped on Horseshoe (just off the Gunflint South of Poplar) and for three days straight saw many moose. One was bellowing for about 20 minutes, about 50 feet behind our camp one night. We paddled by a bull with a cow and a yearling - the bull kept chasing the yearling into the woods - apperently the youngster was cramping his style. We watched them for a good 10 minutes.
