You can go into Quetico as late as you want. Freeze-up occurs on the small lakes first, then progressing to the large lakes, with some flowage lakes never getting good ice. Some small lakes will get periodic skim ice in early Nov., with actual freeze-up happening by late Nov. depending on the weather and amount of wind. Late October is a crap shoot for weather but the lakes will be open. Tree color was 2 weeks ago, not too many leaves left.
