I have never been to Quetico however I consider myself a veteran after 24 years of trips to the BW. I do get frustrated on my summer trips like last summer when I was comming out of Ensign to Moose and a group of 9 was taking a break on a portage - they had their pack chairs out, sitting and chating with their 4 canoes blocking the portage. However I always am able to find an out of the way lake or bay that has little to no traffic. A majority of my trips are in the fall or spring and traffic has been light. Some benefits of the BW are - site management, when a site is worn down, they close it. "Slammers" (biffys, crappers - whatever), I do not need a crapper when I camp (often when hunting I dig a pit and drop trow wherever I need to) however for the health of the area I feel it's best to manage human waste - I have heard a number of stories about Quetico sites that have toilet paper landmines. I personally would like to see fewer permits granted in the BW - If I have to give up one of my yearly trips for the health of the wilderness so be it.
