Two springs ago I spent 17 days on the Man Chain trying to find crappies. I caught about a zillion lake trout but no crappies. My shining moment of success was on Bell Lake when I boated two tiny bluegills. I remain fascinated by panfish in the Quetico. You can only catch so many trout, walleyes, and smallmouth.
