Bear Encounters in the BWCAW or Quetico

Has anybody had any personal bear enconters in the BWCA or Quetico?
Has anybody ever considered carrying a firearm in the BWCAW for the last means in protecting one's self from a bear attack?
Has anybody had to discharge a bear pepper spray, to defer a possible attack from a bear?
