Re: Brent and Comnee Lakes

I have been to both these lakes a couple of times, though not for a few years. While located a good distance up in Quetico, there are numerous parties who will make Brent their destination. The fishing there is excellent (Trout and otherwise). I have found the western portion of the lake, particularly the area near the portage to Darkey, to be good for Trout.

Unfortunately Conmee does not have any Trout. This is a fairly shallow tea colored lake that screams "Pike." On these boards I have read several postings about "less than stellar" fishing here. I have also encountered people returning from Conmee who were a little disappointed with the action. All of these comments had one thing in common:early June. I will pass on to you what a very reliable source once told me about Conmee. He said, "Conmee is an unusual lake, it doesn't heat up (fishing wise) until a little bit later in the summer." Take that for what it's worth.

None the less, Conmee is worth the time to see and the traffic there will be less than what you will find on Brent. Ny suggestion is this. Base camp on Brent and then take day trips to the other lakes in the area. Despite comments about crowds, William is outstanding for Walleye and big Northerns. I know that Conmee has some huge Walleyes and Northerns in it. Suzanette is another good Walleye spot. For Trout your best bet is Brent though you might want to head down to Cone. If you want to travel a little further, Burt to the east, is absolutely beautiful and offers good Trout fishing along with some solitude. Enjoy!
