db, I checked out the pages you mentioned in the BWJ. I would not have the center of gravity that high in a canoe. We always lay our packs flat on their backs to lower the cog. The guy stopped looking at the three moose had his cog very high. I am wondering if he is a great conoeist and has confidence in his abilities to handle a canoe loaded that way. I am no great canoeist but I know that the lower the cog of my canoe lowers my chance of tipping. I do not want to go into the lake with all my gear.
