There is no substitute for Bug Juice. They even make one for blackflies, and I think they work well enough to assure you that bugs won't be a big issue. The other posts are correct, but I don't bother with a headnet anymore, never used it enough, and when I did it made it too dark. The breeze through the camp is important, but very hard to find a campsite like that.
One more thing I always do after I crawl into the tent for the last time (and if there are potty trips), turn on the flashlights and hunt down and kill ALL the skeeters in the tent before you go to sleep. That is especially important if there is going to be a lot of exposed flesh, which I would expect if he is THE one.
We prefer to go in May, when the bugs are sometimes non-existant.
