WE have paddled both directions on the Moose River to and from the portage to Echo Trail. It's always been in September. Once the water was pretty low and we had to walk the boat in a couple of places. Another time, the water level was normal and we paddled on through. There are several easy portages and occasionally a beaver dam or two to deal with but it's very pretty - winding and narrow.
Both times we saw a or paddled and portaged close to other folks.
