Nice call Owen. Pinata! :-) Good thing paws aren't prehensile. I noticed the photo credit is to Robert Beymer. I hope it's not the same one who writes the Paddler's Guides. Oh well... think the pack stayed there over night, or did they hang it for real after they finished the shot? Or were they hoping to get a good shot of a bear in a tree, grabbing a pack? I wonder what would happen to that nice kevlar canoe if a 300 pound bear stood on it trying to get the pack? Before I began being conscientious, my food packs probably spent 200 nights on the ground with no problems. Well, none except my trying to get a good night's sleep anyway. The method depicted certainly wouldn't help me sleep any better - but for the energy and time wasted doing it. I'm in the market for a PFD also so I'm no help. I've been looking in local stores without success. Guess it's time to cross my fingers, order a few and hope one works out.
