Re: Beaverhouse to French

Coach,

My routing would vary between Beaverhouse & French, depending on the time of year. Most likely I'd route through Kasakokwog, spending plenty of time smallie-fishing in the eastern bays of the northern arm of Quetico, around the reefs on the eastern end of Kasakokwog, and especially around the rim of the bay south of Mosquito Point on Pickerel. Again, depending on the time of year, you can do quite well with the lake trout by trolling with heavy silver spoons at Pickerel Narrows and again around Wetasi Island and into Pine Portage Bay. We've had some luck with decent-sized northerns (when we were after them) in the Spring weed beds of Kasakokwog and just about anywhere else (when we were NOT after them!). I've got to think that there's plenty of walleye around the reefs of that lake...we just haven't gotten very effective about hooking them yet.

This is a pretty straight-forward route with long intervals between relatively easy portages. Try to avoid the Pickerel Narrows area during the weekends. Traffic becomes fairly heavy then and good campsites are at a premium.

Good luck with your trip & your fishing! I'm into the Park in just a couple weeks from now, also at Beaverhouse....
