don d,
I'm not sure of the scientific name of the Jackpine Rattler you are talking about, but the only snake I am aware of in the Northern Frontier in any appreciable numbers is the One-eyed Trouser Rattler. The population of which increases dramatically during tourist season. They are known to make their appearance in brushy areas during the day, and most anywhere at night. Women need to be particularly careful when handling, as its venom has been known to cause a 9 month swelling of the lower abdomen.
