Re: First timer looking for suggestions

That "gentleman" is one of the reasons I've not participated on this board is some time. There have been a few others.

They have a right to their opinion, and in a public forum, a right to post as they see fit. Just like on TV, I can choose to turn off the power or change the channel.

Personally, I rarely use trebles (even here in Indiana). Only when I really can't stand it anymore will I throw a topwater (spook, PopR) in the north country, and then I crush the barbs after I cut off the leading treble.

Mostly I use 4" lizards, tubes on a Kahle or "circle" hook, curly tails, or plastic worms. I texas rig all except the grubs.

I also crush the barbs on my single hooks unless I'm fishing for dinner. If I can't land the fish, big deal, I make another cast.

I'll take the odd smallie on the clothespin spinnerbait I use for pike.

If you're only interested in one day from Prairie, try the west end of North Bay down by White Island. Tows to Washington Island are getting expensive, but it's only about 6 hours around the bend to White Island (against the wind). You can also round Canadian Point and try Ranger Bay.
There are any number of mid-lake reefs in this area. The channel between the islands was full of weed once upon a time - not bad for pike and the occasional SMB.
Walleye in this area were tough that trip.
We didn't feel the need to travel too far from our campsite off the SE corner of White Island.
