Rookie, we connect again. I recall posting when you asked info on Pageant. I camped on Bezhik half a dozen times in the 80's. I had some buddies that used this as our destination for the Minnesota fishing opener. We would come in from the North off the Echo trail and hike in about 3 miles. Bezhik has one campsite that was never completed by the forest service. We found all the wood and materials for the "biffy" still packaged up sitting on the site along with the cooking grate. They had been sitting there for years. This is Pike lake, and is fairly shallow. We always did pretty well in here and obviously had it all to ourselves. The other lakes are pretty much the same. Neesh is an unimpressive lake. It appears to be little more than a shallow pond with flat topography. However, during one memorable 40 minute stretch of fishing from shore I caught over 20 pike most of which were in the 4-8 pound range. There is a stream that connects the two lakes and the Suckers were spawning in the stream so the Pike were schooled up at the entrance waiting to eat. I have only paddled into Neewin once. It is easily the most beautiful of the 3 lakes. I believe there is a campsite there but I'm not sure where. Again this is a pike lake, but I really didn't fish it all that much. Were you to head into these lakes I guarantee you would have them all to your self. I would suggest that you head in from Neewin, though I have never come in from that direction. When we entered in from the echo trail there was a section of trail we could drive down that was outside the BWCAW. During the later 80's that land came under private ownership, thus putting the kabosh on our travels through there. I don't think my college buddies (now pushing 40) have been in there in the past 10 years. Have at it, and let me know what you find. If you have any other questions I would be glad to help you out as much as I can. Posted by Range Line on September 07, 2001 at 19:22 |
