Hi Fred, I was in Wabakimi last summer for 9 days. It was a wonderful trip, and a completely different experience than Quetico. The park is very innaccessable except by plane, train or boat. There is a lot of whitewater, of which you will experience if you do any tripping through the park. We traveled approx. 110 miles, of which 25% was class 1,2 and 3 whitewater. If you get into trouble you will be SOL, since it is very remote. We did come across 3 different fly-in fishing camps on our route. We trained in and flew out. This must be arranged by an outfitter, of which there are some very good ones out of Armstrong. The fishing was incredible- walleyes and pike, no smallies that far north. We also got into some lake trout. The portages are far less traveled which required some detective work on finding them, and some serious work getting through them (I have the scars to prove it!). I will be going back next summer for sure! I would be happy to give you some links and other info. E-mail me at horble@coredcs.com Posted by Gimpy on December 13, 2001 at 10:00 |
