The extra weight is not worth it. Make keeping your sleeping gear dry your highest proirity. The waterproof stuff sack is a good idea. We have used military pack liners for our personal gear. We still put everything inside the pack liner in ziplock freezer bags, just in case.

Also seam seal the tent seams and a light weight plastic ground cloth INSIDE the tent. My trip last summer with some driving rainstorms convinced me of the wisdom of ground cloths inside the tent.
