For a couple of trips we squated on the shore and pumped while trying to keep debris away from the filter. Went through a lot of filters fast. Now have two collapsible buckets that we have used for 3 trips with little sigh of wearing out. Both from LL Bean. Larger is dishpan sized, smaller is used for carrying water. Set the bucket up on something, let it settle a bit and have at the pump. Still trying to figure a way for the thing to gravity feed so that pumping wouldn't take so much time.
