I think your best bet is to call LaTourelle's and ask them if you may leave it at their Prairie Portage camp. You would have already gotten the important use out of it by getting to the Prairie Portage, and to hide it in the woods is a good way of "losing" it.
I don't think you want to take it past the motor restricted line, since you will probably get a ticket when you get stopped by Smokey. Plus it is a lot of weight even to paddle around, much less portage.
