Re: First kayak camping trip

I'm going in Sag May 1 with my Feathercraft Kahuna. It
weighs 35lbs and portages like a "feather". I've got
about a 110 mile loop through Saga, ...anons, Kawnipi,
connective tissue to Kashawpiwigamok, Basswood, follow the
border northe back to Sag. The ice isn't out as of today,
on Sag. I have photos posted here of previous trip(s).
I like to keep portages minimum and big water maximum,
the yak is fast even though I maintain just a putt pace.
I have close to 65lbs of "stuff", on short portages I'll
carry everything at once. The biggest issue with
portaging a yak is unloading/reloading all the "tubes",
not so much the weight or length of portage. ANY way,
Gunflint Lake and areas east look like a good yak trip,
never tried it. I have gone north on Gunflint, granite river,
etc. Pretty nice. Happy paddling, I hope the ice goes out
tonight. ;^)
