Re: GPS signals

I use a gps unit in the fall when hunting. I hike into the woods at least a mile in the dark and have never had trouble finding my tree stand. I used to mark a trail with tape now I never bother. I have seven or eight sites marked and can walk straight to them in total darkness in the woods. My gps is just a cheap magellan 315. I can't see paying the extra buck for those maping units especially if your main use is on water or in the woods. If you know someone who will let you try one, I'd say try it, but be prepared to buy one after that. I'm sure you'll like one if you find the need. Just remember a gps is NOT a compass, and I don't believe it is intended to replace one.
