Chapter 6

Chapter 6: - Pals

"Foolsh consistancy is the hobgoblin of little minds" Ralph Waldo Emerson

Yukon sat alone at the battered old oak table and contemplated whether or not he had just made the gravest of mistakes. Obviously, the lack of quality whiskey was beginning to cloud his judgment so Jack decided to belly up to the bar before pursuing the lovely Miss Molly. The bartender looked as ancient as the sun and as weathered as Trinity's Rock atop of Boot Hill. Yukon ordered two bumps of the "good" stuff and sucked them both down slow and easy. Suddenly there was a crash through the swinging saloon doors and in stepped the dirtiest man Jack had ever seen. The bartender quickly glanced at the wanted posters pinned behind the bar. Yukon saw in the old mans eyes that the dusty figure standing in the bar was no horse thief, just a starving animal. "If you got the money to pay, I'll give you a plate of beans" came the voice behind the bar. After watching him snarf down a whole pan of runny beans and consume a bottomless goblet of wine, Yukon's thoughts again returned to Molly. It was time for the wolf to heed to the call of the wild. On his way out Jack whispered to the old timer behind the bar and said, "Better check twice, he's pretty dirty" Jack smiled on his way out of the saloon knowing that the last remark he made to the bartender would slow the stranger up. You see, that filthy gent that moseyed into the bar was none other than “The Left Hand of The Devil”. As the geezer behind the bar checked over the wanted posters again, some of the bounty hunters started to pay attention to the rag picker standing at the bar. Yukon was already sitting in the barber’s chair across the street when the first shot was fired. The startled barber nicked Yukon’s chin with the razor and apologized immediately. Yukon accepted his apology and kicked him square in the groin. As Jack held a towel to his bleeding face he had two thoughts that he spoke aloud. “This cut aint gunna help things with Molly”, “ and what in the hell is taking Trinity so long, there was only three of them.”
