I spoke with someone today who just got back from a week of fishing on bearpelt lake. Apparently that rain storm they had there last week was pretty bad. If you're not familiar with the lake, at the last portage of bearpelt creek there is/was a dam that was probably built around the time of the logging era. Over the years the beaver have also added to the height of the dam. Well, the flash flood last week apparently was too much for the aging dam to handle and it has washed out. I am told that the lake is draining like someone pulled the plug on a bathtub at a rate of about 1" an hour. He said the water level had dropped 3 feet in two days. The normaly slow moving bearpelt creek is now a roaring rapids in places with a steady current throughout. Anyone veturing up the creek in the next coming weeks are sure to be met with an unusual challenge as the changing landscape unfolds. Posted by arnesr on June 16, 2002 at 23:53 |
