Nah, don't really know the truth, but I never worry about it. Tampons make for less-volumous waste. Use double zip-locks and keep them in the garbage bag.

I read a survey study once - sorry, can't remember where - about black bear attacks and I think it found NO coorelation with any human characteristic or action - just mentally deranged bears. Can't be many of them out there...
