I'm doing this from memory, so check the map to verify what I'm about to tell you. In May, 2001, I made a five day trip entering at Angleworm and making a half loop that ended at Mudro. We entered mid-week, in mid-May, and took the most difficult portage in all of the BWCAW in order to avoid crowds, and guess what? We still ran into other parties on all the lakes we visited. Pretty discouraging. Anyway, as far as fishing, Bert Heep at Piragis gave us a tip andd suggested we alter our route and head through MooseCamp Lake. It was great advice. The smallmouth and walleye fishing on MooseCamp was fabulous and it was the least visited lake on the trip. You may want to take a look at the map and see whether it makes sense to reverse our route and check out MooseCamp. Just be warned: the MooseCamp river leading into Fourtown is filled with beaver dams and will likely be low in August. Posted by Illini John on July 29, 2002 at 22:53 |
