Re: poacher

This is very delayed indeed, but perhaps anyone who's planning a trip this upcoming season will find this useful...Basswood to Poacher portage is about a mile and a half of swamp and thick brush...while the trail is easy to follow, the length tends to get to be a bit much...once we hit Poacher we wanted to rest on the beautiful beach that lies on the south end of the lake, but were immediately attacked by a vampire hoard of mosquitos...worst I've ever experienced...we set off in search of a campsite since it was getting late, but found nothing suitable (too bad too, since I hear Poacher has a fabulous laker population). Either way, this led us to the creek that goes up to Sunday from Poacher...depending on water level, it can be a piece of cake or a long, cumbersome route. We went when the water was ok, having to get out at points and trudge through muck and rock at points along the creek to pull our canoes through - in other words, don't expect to pass through this route without some work involved, it'll most likely take some work. Then again, if water's high, shouldn't be a problem. Either way, it's a rewarding journey...

I'll be heading that way again this summer to try and reproduce (or improve upon) my trophy walleye from Sunday. Good fishing all around...
