A water bottle for your day pack, so you always have drinking water accessible.

Tip: consider using a 2 litre soft drink bottle. They are cheap (free), nearly indestructable (have you ever seen one broken?), easy to drink from, and perfect size for mixing drinks such as kool aid and Crystal Lite. Only disadvantage is they take about 45 seconds to fill -- big deal.

I like Platypus bottles - fold to nothing when empty and last forever.

Nalgene bottles are the way to go. They are indestructable, have measurement graduations and they do not keep the flavor of anything that has been in them. In addition if you are the type that uses a H20 filter most will screw right to your nalgene bottle...let's say you don't use a filter they fill up nice and easy and the wide mouth makes it even easier to add ingredients. m2c

I have broken one. It is not hard. I was on a cimbing trip and it dropped about 200 feet and hit some rocks. It was quite a sight. However, I must say they are teh best bottles to buy.
