Years ago, I forgot the landing net. I was really worried until after
I caught the first fish. After that I realized life is more fun (and
much easier) when you work without a net.

All nets do is knock off the big ones. I agree with David,
it's a blast attempting to land a 15-20 lb. pike or lake trout
by hand!

I say YES to the net. It may be the difference in landing
that trophy, but is also handy on portages for carrying all
those pesky small items you don't want to bother putting back
in your pack.

I started carrying a net after missing a northern dinner more
than once in the same trip. It's wedged under the front seat
rails out of the way. That way it also won't fall out when portaging.

Carrying a net is a sin in my opinion. Just my opinion...I
would never try to disway someone from landing that trophy it
is just a better feeling bare handing that monster. If you lose
it...well it just became a couple inches bigger didn't it?

A must in my opinion when you're fishing with children or
others who can't/are afraid too land their own fish

I am in favor of carring a net. It is much easier on the fish.
I carry a folding model. Packs down small for portages.

I find that a collapsable net is the best way to go. It folds
up and can be portaged easliy, and then unfolded when ready
for use.

I like the idea for helping out on the portages, besides,
sometimes it would be nice to have a little help landing that
dinner.
