Portage Description:
This is the longer of the 2 portages marked on the fisher maps. The 20 extra rods of portaging is worth saving a mile of paddling. Both ends are rocky and the whole trail is pretty rocky, so be careful with your footing. There probably is good fishing at the bottom, but I have never tried.

Lake Description:
There is a decent campsite on the upper part. The best sites though are just after Lower Basswood Falls. There are a lot of squatters, so get there early and hope the people aren't staying for a week.
