Solo Sucks
by Phantom Jug (continued from page 1)

I sat on shore for a while and must admit that the temptation to return to the truck was very tempting. But, I decided that a wet sleeping bag and a swollen hand were not going to keep me from this trip and I was convinced that there must be a bigger picture that I could not see as to why I was there. I pressed on.

I reached Lake Polly later that afternoon and decided to make camp there. I picked out a campsite back in the far east bay with enough daylight left to dry my stuff. By now the top 10 layers of skin on my hand had been ripped off and the raw flesh was very painful. But, I did my best to ignore it and go about making camp. As the sun was setting behind me I heard an obtrusive noise to the west. A frickin' chainsaw! Someone had packed a chainsaw into the BW. Needing some excitement I decided to do a little bushwhacking and see if I could find out who was back there and what they were doing with a chainsaw. Following the sound, I walked through the woods until I could make out 6 guys at the campsite. After sitting there for a while I determined that they were not Forest Rangers, just a bunch of morons making log furniture. I sat against a tree until sundown and decided that I was going to spare future campers the noise of the chainsaw and do whatever it took to get the saw away from them. As darkness settled in, the sounds of the forest were starting to creep me out a little bit. All of a sudden, the pain immobilized me. Something had bitten my calf right behind my knee cap. I swatted at whatever it was and felt the insect squish in my fingers. Whatever it was, it was big. Anyway, I saw the saw on a fresh stump, tip-toed into their camp, grabbed it and slipped away unnoticed. When I got back to my campsite the back of my knee had swollen up like a grapefruit. I figured that I had either been bitten by a spider or sasquatch himself. That night I went through at least half the jug just to kill the pains and to sleep.
