Always keep your food safe from bears. There are other ways to accomplish that but I hang my packs. I've found it helps to leave a little slack in the rope that holds the top two pulleys. That way the trees can sway in the wind and you don't have to worry about the rope breaking.

Don't use cheap cast pulleys. You'll regret it. You can get good pulleys at marine supply stores.
